Dr. Robert Ryan

Dr.  Ryan currently works in General and Endovascular Neurosurgery at the Virginia Mason Medical Center Neuroscience Institute in Seattle Washington.  After graduating from Lindsay Thurber in 1996, Robert went on to take his Bachelor and Masters of Science at Queen's University.  In 2005 Dr. Ryan earned his MD from the University of Calgary.  He completed his residency in Neurosurgery at the University of Alberta.  Dr. Ryan also completed a fellowship in Neurosurgery research at the Barrow Neurological Institute during his residency.  From 2011-13.  Dr. Ryan completed a fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Endovascular Neurosurgery.

Dr. Ryan has been the recipient of many honours and awards including -

  • CIHR Studentship in Sensory-Motor Physiology
  • Queen’s Graduate Award
  • Ontario Graduate Scholarship

  • Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery Fellowship

Dr. Ryan regularly is invited to present at conferences and symposiums in the field of neurological science.  Dr. Ryan has presented nationally and internationally 20 times in the past 10 years.

Dr. Ryan remains actively involved in clinical research and participates in physician as well as industry sponsored trials.  This includes research into the role of methamphetamines in spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage, and work on optimizing the technical performance of hybrid neurovascular operating rooms.

Dr. Ryan has numerous peer reviewed publications, and has written chapters and provided information for books within the areas of Neurosurgery and Neurological Sciences.

Dr. Ryan continues his excellent work in Neurosciences by teaching and mentoring.  He supervises medical students and residents from general surgery and orthopedics programs, as well as fellows from Acute Care Surgery.  As a mentor Dr. Ryan works with medical students, residents, physician assistants and Nurse practitioners.
