Westpark Middle to host The Academy of Dance open house

Red Deer Public Schools is excited to expand its programming and choices for families for the 2023/2024 school year. This includes the start of The Academy of Dance at Westpark Middle School, which is the first program offered in Red Deer Public’s new Academy of Arts.

An open house for The Academy of Dance will take place March 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Westpark Middle School. All families, including those who do not currently attend Westpark Middle, are invited to attend.

“We are excited to offer this new program to families this fall,” said Kelly Brand, Principal of Westpark Middle. “It allows us to enhance the great programming we already offer so our students can pursue their passions while also giving families more choice in education.”

This program is for current dancers in Grades 6-8 who want to take their technique and performance to the next level. The Academy of Dance will support dancers of all abilities to enhance their current practice.

The vision of the Academy of Dance is to enhance arts opportunities already offered within Red Deer Public while allowing students to more fully explore an area of passion during their school day.

The Academy of Dance will be housed out of Westpark Middle School and students will train at facilities at Red Deer Polytechnic. Like with Red Deer Public’s other Academy programs, students will experience a double block of dance, every second day for the whole year which will count as their Phys. Ed.

Students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Contemporary/Lyrical.
