Reading College

INSPIRING KIDS TO READ AND WRITEIMG_9870.jpg

Reading College works with over 60 students who just finished grade two and are struggling with reading and writing. During the month of July, students spend the day in immersed in a literacy rich program. The program is instructed by three master teachers and five recent graduates from the education program at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) ensuring student receive a lot of attention and support in small groups.

Students also explore RDP, opening their eyes to future opportunities after they gradate. The program is made easy for families by providing transportation, and great meals for students. The days are fun IMG_5743%20(1)%20(1).jpgand packed with lots of activities for these students as it's the 'best summer ever'.

The results....

Year after year we know this program is impacting youth in a positive way. Students see a vast improvement in their reading and comprehension levels, they are printing clearer letters, using proper sentence structure, have their imagination grow with excitement and confidence and are reading more at home. Reading College also helps students begin grade 3 at grade reading level allowing them to continue to grow with their peers. Students don't want to leave Reading College, and parents are thankful for the additional support to help their child. It's a recipe for success.

This is just one of many programs that go 'above and beyond' for our students and is only possible through the support of the community. Reading College is a $100,000 program which we provide to students at no cost to families.
