Red Deer Public high school students have opportunity to pursue golf passions

Golf Academy

Are you a high school student who is ready to take their golf game to the next level? If so, Red Deer Public’s new Golf Academy might be right for you.

Current and new families of Red Deer Public are encouraged to learn more at an upcoming information night in the clubhouse at River Bend Golf and Recreation Area on May 3 at 6:30 p.m.

“We are lucky to have River Bend Golf and Recreation Area on board to help us offer this great program to high school students,” said Lance Ward, Programs of Choice Director. “This program will provide innovative instruction led by PGA Professionals including swing analysis, shot variety, mental focus and imagery.”

Phil McCluskey, Director of Golf at River Bend Golf and Recreation Area, said River Bend is extremely excited to partner with Red Deer Public Schools to start the Golf Academy.

“We have a very strong junior golf program at the course and we feel this new Academy will only strengthen it,” he said. “Our goal is to grow the program to where we are getting our players post secondary scholarships or careers in the golf industry.”

The Golf Academy will be offered to high school students in the second semester only. Athletes will split time between River Bend Golf and Recreation Centre and Aurora Indoor Golf Simulators Red Deer.

The tuition for the Golf Academy is $1,500 and includes 80-plus hours of golf-specific training, tournament entry fees, rounds of golf at neighbouring courses, and a Junior Membership to River Bend Golf and Recreation Centre for the season. The Golf Academy is a five credit option that takes place during school hours.
