It’s back to school for 11,000 students and 1,200 staff at Red Deer Public
Posted onRed Deer Public Schools is ready and excited to welcome students back to the classroom on September 2, 2025. Since August 25, our dedicated staff have been busy preparing their classrooms and schools, setting the stage for another exciting year of teaching, learning and inspiring students to reach their full potential.
This year, Red Deer Public will welcome 11,432 students, along with 34 new teachers, stepping into roles left by retirements, leaves of absence and resignations. Notably, 22 of these educators are newly embarking on their teaching careers. Additionally, three classified staff will join Red Deer Public Schools for the 2025/2026 school year.
“Our focus has always been helping every student succeed, and this year is no different,” said Chad Erickson, Superintendent. “We are excited to see students return to classrooms full of enthusiasm to learn. Together, with our staff, families and community, we will continue to create learning environments where students are challenged, supported and inspired to grow.”
Looking ahead to the 2025/2026 school year, Red Deer Public will continue with its priorities that align with the Alberta Education Assurance Domain. These include Student Growth and Achievement; Teaching and Leading; Learning Supports; Governance and Local and Societal Context.
“Our priorities help us respond to the changing needs of students and strengthen the supports in place for staff, families, and the community,” said Chad.
To ensure ongoing dialogue, the Board of Trustees will be launching regular online engagement opportunities throughout the school year. These conversations will invite input from stakeholders on a variety of topics that help shape the work of Red Deer Public Schools.
“Hearing directly from our students, staff, families and community is essential,” said Nicole Buchanan, Board Chair. “We’re committed to building strong connections through regular engagements, and to using what we learn to guide our decisions in meaningful ways.”
Nicole added that she is optimistic about the year ahead.
“The start of a new school year always brings excitement and possibility,” she said. “Our Board is proud to support the important work happening in our classrooms across the Division, and we look forward to celebrating the successes and growth of our students and staff this year.”
