Glendale teacher wins prestigious Inspiring Education Award

Posted on

A love of science, a knack for sparking curiosity, and one very thoughtful nomination have landed Glendale Sciences and Technology School Teacher Chayce Moon a top honour from the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton.

Chayce, a Grade 3 teacher at Glendale, is one of three educators in Northern Alberta to receive an Inspiring Education Award, a new award given by the science centre.

“It’s so cool to be recognized,” she said. “My former Principal Sandre (Bevan) nominated me for the award and it was so thoughtful and kind of her to do that.”

The award comes with a free virtual field trip with TELUS Science Centre for Chayce and her students, and a $1,000 grant to use for science supplies in her classroom.

Chayce graduated with her Bachelor of Education Degree in 2020. Shortly after graduating, Chayce began teaching at Glendale Sciences and Technology School, and it’s a place where she is meant to be.

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher - especially at the elementary level,” she said. “I love what I do. It’s fun, it’s hands-on and it’s so cute to see the kids discover the world.”

She’s especially passionate about teaching science. “The kids are always engaged and interested. It’s amazing to see the kids suddenly have that ‘ah-ha’ moment and learn about the things around them.”

Chayce still remembers science experiments she did in elementary school, and works hard to create those same memorable learning moments for her own students.

Sandre Bevan, former Principal at Glendale Sciences and Technology School said Chayce brings science to life in ways that ignite curiosity and excitement in every student she teaches.

“Her creative, hands-on approach helps young learners see themselves as scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers,” she said. “She’s not just teaching science, she’s building confidence, wonder, and a lifelong love of learning. We’re incredibly proud to have her inspiring the next generation right here in our school.”
