Return of in person learning - January 10

Parent Update

We look forward to welcoming our students back to the school on Monday, January 10 as confirmed by the Minister of Education. Learning best happens in the classroom and our priority continues to be quality teaching and learning, as well as the safety and well-being of all our students and staff. Please be assured that we will continue to follow all health guidelines in place as we continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic.

We want to provide you with important information. Additional updates based on provincial guidelines are anticipated in the next couple days and we will keep you informed on those. At this point, we have these updates to share:

  • Staff Learning Day on January 14
    • With the extended Christmas break, Red Deer Public Schools has canceled the Staff Learning Day which was scheduled for Friday, January 14. This will now be a regular school day for all grades.
  • Daily health screening
    • If your child is showing symptoms or not well, you must keep them home. Now, this is more important than ever. An updated Daily Screening Checklist from AHS will be shared with you when it becomes available and we ask that it be reviewed every morning before sending your child to school.
  • Rapid test kits/Medical grade masks
    • Schools will receive take home rapid test kits and medical grade masks to distribute to all students and staff. We anticipate we will receive these by the end of next week. We will communicate when these will be distributed and the expectations for their use when we have more information.
  • High school exam week
    • Our high schools will share information with students and parents on modification to Exam Week tomorrow.

To help reduce the spread of the Omicron variant, now more than ever, we encourage students and their families to remain vigilant and ensure everyone is following public health guidance, both at school but even more importantly in other areas of our day-to-day lives.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together.

Sincerely,

Chad Erickson
Superintendent of Schools
