REPORTS TO:                 Associate Superintendent, System Services

 

PURPOSE:

The Director of Facility Services is responsible for development and implementation of positive programs in the following areas:

  • Facility Services - Maintenance

  • Facility Services - Caretaking

  • Working to maintain a healthy and safe work environment

  • Working to maintain a collaborative, engaging, and successful work environment

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:

Communication               - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in the English Language

Public Relations             - Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all district staff and Stakeholders

Education/Training         - High School Diploma

                        - Valid Alberta Class 4 Drivers License

                       - Journeyman Certification desirable

                       - Be an active participant in professional development in support of District activities and goals

Experience                     - Minimum five years experience in Facility Services

 

                      - Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the position

Typical Duties

  • Reports directly to the Associate Superintendent of System Services

  • In consultation with Associate Superintendent of System Services and District Treasurer, prepares and administers an annual budget for the Facility Services Department

  • Coordinates the operation and maintenance of all district facilities

  • Maintains a purchase order system, MasterCard, and other record systems to enable the Facility Services department to account for all expenditures

  • In consultation with Associate Superintendent of System Services, coordinates facility planning, construction, and modernization process

  • Prepares estimates for repairs, supplies, renovations and special furniture requests as required and ensures that purchasing aligns with the district’s administrative procedures

  • Consults with school administration on renovations and upgrades

  • With Associate Superintendent of System Services and District Treasurer, administers the School Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal (IMR) Program

  • In consultation with Associate Superintendent of System Services and District Treasurer, prepares and implements the Facility Maintenance Plan

  • Arranges for the tendering and ordering of Facility Services materials and supplies

  • Implements rotation of tendering of contracted services within district, ie. Electrical, plumbing, painting, etc.

  • Responds to emergent facility concerns, adjusts staff levels and schedules to accommodate concerns

  • Ensures compliance with the requirements of Alberta Infrastructure regulations, applicable building and fire codes pertinent to school buildings, and other applicable legislation

  • Assists with the acquisition and disposal of real and personal property owned by the district and follows proper disposal policy and methods

  • Maintains and enhances district-wide emergency lighting program. Updates as required

  • In consultation with Associate Superintendent, System Services, prepares and submits district’s yearly Capital Plan

  • In consultation with the District Treasurer, prepares and submits IMR Final Cost Reports to Alberta Infrastructure

  • Coordinates all energy management initiatives

  • Serves on the District Health & Safety Committee and participates in CUPE District Communications Committee meetings

  • Liaise with other departments within the district and outside contacts

  • Creates, organizes and maintains an inventory of plans and specifications

  • Gathers and analyzes all required information and maintains an ongoing district painting plan

Personnel Management

  • Directs the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of maintenance, casual, and caretaking personnel

  • Establishes appropriate work schedules for all Facility Services and contract personnel

  • Reviews, approves and provides input to the Associate Superintendent, Human Resources for requests of leaves of absence for Facility Services staff

  • Prepares, maintains and analyzes holiday, vacation schedules, lieu time, and call-out allotments and completes time-sheet review for Facility Services staff

  • Initiates training programs for Facility Services staff

  • Provides the necessary equipment, resources, and plans to implement safety programs in accordance with Provincial Occupation Health and Safety and Fire Regulations

  • In consultation with the District Health & Safety Specialist, develops, enhances & monitors health and safety programs for Facility Services staff

  • Ensures that an acceptable occupational health and safety district standard of cleanliness throughout the facilities and grounds is maintained. ie. Facility Services Shop, boiler rooms, district vehicles

General

  • Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or Associate Superintendent, System Services
