Alternative School Programs

Alternative School Programs are available for students who experience difficulties coping with the regular school environment or earning credits for a high school diploma.

Behavior Intervention Programs: Venture and Quest Programs are provided to students who have been identified with a severe behaviour disorder and are unable to cope with a regular school environment with supports.

Alternative Academic Programs: North Cottage High School, Odyssey High School and Outreach School Programs are provided to students based on the unique and individual needs of each student. Programs include distance learning and home education in addition to on-site support and assistance. All Programs provide support for students to complete high school course requirements.

Institutional Programs: Direwood Treatment Centre, Oskayak Treatment Centre, Youth Assessment Centre, Parkland Youth Homes, and Red Deer Regional Hospital include a school program for students in addition to treatment programs provided by Child and Family Services Authority and David Thompson Helath Region Mental Health Services. Students are provided an individualized program of study and supports to transition back to a regular school or alternative program.

Extension Program: Community Programs is located at Lindsay Thurber High School and provides students and adults the opportunity to complete courses for credit or general interest outside the regular school day or year i.e. evening and Summer. A fee applies to courses that the student chooses to take.
